INSTOMI SIDEBOARD

Instomi Sideboard (meaning stories in Xhosa) celebrates the uniqueness of timber and tells the story of the tree from which it is made. Using a repeat pattern of the pith of the tree with a timber or metal surround, this design reveals the lifeblood of the tree while the end grain allows us to calculate the age of the tree and to see the conditions in which it grew. The sturdy legs have been cleverly integrated into the design to create an interplay between positive and negative space. Available in ash and oak, the sideboard can be custom-made to size.

The Instomi Range Instomi(meaning stories in Xhosa), tells the story of the oak tree from which it is made, with the pith of the oak tree being central to the architectural silhouette of pieces found in the range. The end grain evident throughout the wood is a consistent detail in every piece of the range.
